If you’re an avid makeup enthusiast like me, you’ve probably encountered that one product that had you teetering on the edge of a decision. For me, the Make Up by Mario Ethereal Eyes Eyeshadow Palette was it. Released as a limited edition item last year, I found myself pondering whether it was worth the investment. Eventually, I succumbed to temptation and got my hands on it just before it sold out. Over the past year, I’ve put it to the test, and now, I’m here to share my thoughts on this coveted eyeshadow palette.
The Formula and Love for the Palette:
I must say that the formula of the Make Up by Mario Ethereal Eyes Eyeshadow Palette truly won me over. It’s smooth, blendable, and long-lasting – all the qualities we look for in a high-quality eyeshadow. The pigmentation is impeccable, and the shades are versatile, allowing you to create a wide range of eye-catching looks. So, on this front, it certainly lives up to the hype.
Similar Shades in My Collection:
However, if I’m being honest, as the months went by, I couldn’t help but notice that some of the shades in this palette are strikingly similar to those in my existing eyeshadow collection. If you’re someone who already has a diverse range of eyeshadows in your arsenal, you might find yourself in the same boat. While I don’t regret my purchase, I wouldn’t rush out to buy it again, especially if you have a collection with shades that might be even more flattering to your particular eye color.
Just “OK” for Darker Skin Tones:
Another point worth noting is that if you have a darker skin tone, this palette might not be the best fit for you. The ethereal and sparkly shades in the Ethereal Eyes Palette are undeniably stunning, but if you’re seeking shades that cater to a deeper complexion, you might be better off exploring other options. The color payoff can be a bit underwhelming on darker skin tones, which is a drawback of this palette.
Some Alternative Palettes: If you’re on the hunt for alternatives, there are a couple of palettes that come to mind.
1. ColourPop Stone Cold Fox Palette:
One of them is the ColourPop Stone Cold Fox palette. Although it doesn’t have the same formula as the Make Up by Mario palette, it offers a broader spectrum of colors. You can create similar looks with it, and it’s an affordable option that might suit your needs.
2. Patrick Ta Major Dimensional Palette:
Another palette that stands out is the Patrick Ta Major Dimensional Palette. This palette includes some of the sparkly shades similar to the Ethereal Eyes palette along with two base creme shades.
3. Dose of Colors x Shayla Wifey Eyeshadow Palette:
Though it is not quite as similar but close to it would be the Dose of Colors x Shayla Wifey Eyeshadow Palette The formula is impressive, and as with the Patrick Ta Major Dimensional Palette, the shades in this palette are deep enough to flatter a darker skin tone.
4. KKW Beauty Matte Cocoa Palette:
Unfortunately, this palette has been discontinued. However, I was able to find that some of the shades in this palette are similar to some of the mattes in the Ethereal Eyes Eyeshadow Palette.
In conclusion, the Make Up by Mario Ethereal Eyes Eyeshadow Palette is a beautiful addition to any makeup collection. The formula is undoubtedly impressive, and you can create some stunning looks with it. However, whether you should purchase it depends on your individual circumstances. If you have a similar collection of shades and a darker skin tone, you might want to consider other options. This palette is not one of my all-time favorites, but it won’t keep me from using it. As you can see, I’ve hit pan on one of the shades, and I’ve been rotating it to make the most of my investment. While I’m a fan of the Make Up by Mario line, this eyeshadow palette doesn’t top my list. While I don’t regret my purchase of the Ethereal Eyes Palette, if I were making the choice today, I might have just explored what I already have in my current collection for these viable alternatives. Now, I’d love to hear from you. Have you purchased the Ethereal Eyes Palette? Did you buy it during its initial limited release last year, or did you make the purchase in 2023 during the second release? What are your thoughts on this palette? If you have decided to pass on purchasing this palette, which palettes do you have in your collection that may serve as an alternative to this one? Share your experiences and opinions in the comments below. Your insights could be valuable to others who are considering adding this palette to their makeup collection.
