This year feels even more special because the FIFA World Cup has come to North America, and as someone fortunate enough to live in one of the host cities, I’ve witnessed firsthand the excitement building throughout my community.
The energy is contagious.
Restaurants are filled with fans wearing jerseys from countries around the world. Parks and breweries host watch parties where strangers become friends over a shared love of the game. Visitors are traveling thousands of miles to experience a tournament they’ve dreamed about for years, and as a host city, we get to welcome them, celebrate with them, and share a small part of our culture while learning about theirs.
Whether you’ve followed soccer your entire life or couldn’t explain the offside rule if someone asked, it’s hard not to get swept up in the excitement.
But here’s what I never expected.

One of my favorite things about this challenge is that you don’t have to know anything about soccer.
Seriously.

Maybe today’s match inspires a bold blue eye.

The Foundation Experiment I Never Planned
One of the first surprises happened with my foundation.
Normally, I reserve my Becca foundation for cooler weather because it’s a little more full coverage than I typically reach for during the summer.
If it weren’t for this challenge, it probably would have stayed tucked away until fall.
Instead, I decided to experiment.
I mixed it with the One/Size Bronze Beauty Blur Balm Serum, curious to see what would happen.
The result completely surprised me.
Instead of feeling heavy, it gave me a beautiful, lightweight finish that reminded me of a skin tint while still providing the coverage I wanted.
Because I wanted everything to stay in place during long days around the city, I set my face with powder.
That simple decision led me to another discovery.
Some of the bronzers I had considered “too light” for my complexion suddenly worked beautifully because of the way I had customized my foundation.
One forgotten product led me to another forgotten product.
That’s exactly what shopping your stash should feel like.
Not limiting yourself to how a product was originally marketed, but asking, “What happens if I try something different?”
Team USA Challenged Me to Wear More Red Lipstick
As someone cheering for the U.S. Men’s National Team, I unintentionally gave myself another challenge.
Wear more red lipstick.
Like many people, I realized I had quietly placed red lipstick into the “special occasions only” category.
Holiday parties.
Formal dinners.
Date nights.
Celebrations.
Meanwhile, beautiful red lipsticks were sitting in my collection, waiting for a chance to be worn.
The FIFA Fever™ Challenge finally gave them that opportunity.
Every USA match encouraged me to reach for another shade of red.
Some days I wanted a timeless classic.
Other days I wanted something brighter, deeper, warmer, or softer.
I rediscovered favorites like KKW Beauty Classic Red, The Lip Bar’s Bawse Lady, my longtime favorite MAC Ruby Woo, and Colored Raine’s Cherry Blossom Liquid Lip Color.
But the biggest surprise wasn’t revisiting those favorites.
It was discovering other red shades in my collection that I had almost forgotten about.
Some looked elegant.
Some looked playful.
Some completely changed the mood of my makeup.
For the first time, I realized red lipstick isn’t one look.
It’s an entire wardrobe.
Now I find myself wearing reds for everyday errands, outdoor watch parties, dinners with friends, and afternoons exploring the city—not because it’s a special occasion, but because I enjoy wearing them.
Sometimes all we need is permission to use what we already own.
Even My Forgotten Single Eyeshadows Made a Comeback
Years ago, I made the decision to stop purchasing individual eyeshadows and focus on palettes instead.
Palettes felt easier.
More convenient.
More complete.
But that decision left me with a collection of beautiful single shadows that slowly became forgotten.
Until FIFA Fever™.
As I started creating looks inspired by different countries and tournament matchups, I realized that sometimes the exact shade I wanted wasn’t inside one of my palettes.
It was one of my single eyeshadows.
Instead of overlooking them, I began mixing singles with palettes to create completely unique looks.

It reminded me of one of my favorite things about the World Cup itself.

As I continued the challenge, I started thinking about my makeup collection like a soccer team.
